Listen, if you come to Lisbon and think you gotta drop money for a decent view, you are missing the whole point. This city sits on seven hills and the views are literally everywhere for free. I climbed a bunch of them last time i was there and honestly some spots left me speechless. No tickets, no lines, just you and the rooftops stretching all the way to the river. Here is my personal list of 15 absolute favorites, all zero budget and all worth the sore legs.

1. Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
This one sits at the very top and gives you the widest sweep over the entire city. You can see the castle, the river and even the bridge far away on clear days. Its quieter than the others so you can actually sit and enjoy without crowds pushing. I got there early morning and watched the sun come up, best decision ever.

2. Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Right in the middle of Alfama this spot feels like the gateway to everything beautiful. You look straight down over orange roofs and the Tagus river sparkling below. There is a small garden area where locals chill with coffee. Come around golden hour and the light just hits different.

3. Miradouro de Santa Luzia
Everybody knows this one for the pretty tiles and purple flowers but the view is no joke. You get a perfect frame of the river and the old city tumbling down the hill. Its super romantic and easy to reach on foot from the cathedral area. Bring water because you will stay longer than you plan.

4. Miradouro da Graça
Next to the old church this viewpoint lets you see the castle from the side and the whole downtown spread out. Sunset here is crazy popular but still free. I sat on the wall for almost an hour just watching the sky change colors. The steps up are steep but totally doable.

5. Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
This one is on the other side of the city and feels more like a park with benches and trees. You get a clean shot across to the castle and the eastern hills. Its great for afternoon because the light is softer. I read a book there once and lost track of time completely.

6. Miradouro de Santa Catarina
Locals call the statue area Adamastor and the view over the river and bridge is huge. You can see ships coming in and the whole waterfront. Its a bit windy sometimes but that just makes it feel alive. Perfect spot to grab a cheap snack from nearby and stay till evening.

7. Miradouro do Jardim do Torel
A hidden garden right in the center with steps leading up to a terrace. The panorama includes the aqueduct and the western neighborhoods. Not many people know about it so you often have it almost to yourself. I discovered it by accident and now its one of my go-tos.

8. Miradouro do Monte Agudo
Higher up north this viewpoint gives you distance from the touristy parts. You see the whole city laid out like a map with the river winding through. The climb is longer but the reward is real. Bring good shoes because the path gets a little rough at the end.

9. Miradouro Panorâmico de Monsanto
This abandoned tower in the big park has graffiti everywhere but the 360 view from the top floor is insane. River, city, hills and forest all at once. Its a bit of an adventure to reach but feels like your own secret spot. Go during the day for safety.

10. Miradouro do Chão do Loureiro
Right above a small square this one surprises you with how close it feels to the castle. You look straight into Alfama rooftops and can almost touch the orange tiles with your eyes. Super quick to reach from Baixa and great for a midday break.

11. Miradouro de Santo Estêvão
Tucked away in a quiet corner of Alfama this tiny viewpoint has one of the most peaceful river scenes. No big crowds just a couple of benches and that endless blue water. I went there after a long walking day and it felt like the city gave me a hug.

12. Viewpoint at the top of Parque Eduardo VII
The big park in the middle has a wide open terrace at the highest point. You get the classic straight shot down the avenue to the river. Its flat and easy to reach so perfect if your legs are already tired from other hills. Sunset here turns the sky pink every time.

13. Free areas around Castelo de São Jorge walls
You dont need to pay to enter the castle to get amazing views. Walk the outer paths and you will find several spots overlooking the whole Alfama and downtown. The light in late afternoon makes the white houses glow. I spent a whole morning wandering these free edges.

14. Miradouro da Rocha Conde de Óbidos
Down by the docks this one gives you a different angle, more industrial and open. You see the big bridge up close and the working port. Its less pretty but real and honest. Great if you want something off the usual tourist path.

15. Miradouro do Recolhimento
Another quiet one near the castle area with sweeping views over the eastern part of the city. The trees frame the panorama nicely and there is space to sit on the grass. I found it on my last day and wished i had more time to stay.

So yeah, Lisbon really spoils you with free views. Just put on comfy shoes, grab a bottle of water and start climbing. Some days i did three or four in a row and never got bored. Your photos will look pro and your wallet stays happy. Trust me, these spots are the real reason people fall in love with this city. Go see for yourself.
